Three International Conductors
Three international conductors will be the Key note presenters for Choralfest 2010. These are;

Jing Ling-Tam, Professor of Music, is the UTA Director of Choral Studies. As one of America’s most sought after choral conductors, she has garnered international recognition in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. A compelling musician, Prof. Ling-Tam has conducted All-State and Honor Choirs throughout the United States. Her appearances as clinician at the American Choral Directors Association’s national and regional conventions have captivated educators and conductors with her inventive, humorous and highly creative approaches to choral and conducting techniques. Some of Professor Ling-Tam’s recent performances include the 2002 AIMS Festival Chorus (The Netherlands), the 2002 Singapore Youth Festival Choir, the 2000 World Chinese Church Music Association Conference Choir (Malaysia. Her work as clinician has brought her to the IFCM Asia Pacific Choral Symposium (Singapore, 2001) and the Chorleitergang (Graz, Austria, 2001). A choral series in her name is published by Alliance Music of Houston, Texas.

Vocal Line was formed in January 1991 by Jens Johansen, who has conducted the choir in a dedicated and energetic manner ever since. Besides conducting, he also finds time to arrange new songs. At the University of Aarhus, his lectures include "Arranging for Pop/Rock Choir", "Conducting Contemporary Choir " and "Music Theory and Analysis". In addition, he also teaches "Conducting Contemporary Choir" at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. He has recently completed a research project on "Part-singing in Pop/Rock Music", in which Vocal Line plays an important part. Jens Johansen has given lectures at various seminars and acted as conductor at a number of choir festivals in Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Germany and Hungary. Over the past 20 years, he has published numerous choir arrangements and compositions that are performed by a wide array of choir singers all over Europe. On top of this, he is a board member on the committee of the choir organization KOR72 as well as on the committee of Danske Korledere (Danish Choir Conductors). In these capacities, he helps organize seminars, workshops and choir contests to the benefit of Danish choir singers and conductors. |
Professor Bruce Rogers is the Director of Choral Activities at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, a position he assumed in 1994. In this role, he oversees the department’s various vocal and choral programs, which span the entire spectrum of music – from classical to jazz. He personally directs Mt. San Antonio College’s award-winning Chamber Singers and the elite vocal jazz ensemble, Singcopation. In 2007, Professor Rogers was invited to conduct the ACDA National Two-Year College Honor Choir at the ACDA National Convention in Miami and the MENC Northwest Jazz Honor Choir in Portland. In 2009, he was invited to conduct and present lectures at the “ACCET Choral Conductor’s Workshop” in Melbourne, Australia. Prof. Rogers has presented lectures, adjudicated, and conducted All-State and Collegiate Honour Choirs in twenty States, Australia, Canada, Austria, Hungary, and the Netherlands In 2003, Bruce was awarded the prestigious “Best Conductor” prize at the “International Grand Prix Choral Competition” held in Varna, Bulgaria and his Chamber Singers received numerous first place awards, including the title of “Grand Prix Champions”. Last year, his vocal jazz group Singcopation won a special performance award from Downbeat Magazine and in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 & 2006 Downbeat Magazine honoured them with the title of the best college vocal jazz choir in the United States. For his many achievements, Mt. SAC presented Professor Rogers with its prestigious “Faculty Member of the Year” award and he has recently signed with Gentry Music to publish the “Bruce Rogers Choral Series”. Both the Chamber Singers and Singcopation will be present at Choralfest 2010. . |
